'See a chance': Arne Slot hints at what Liverpool will do in the transfer market to replace Luis Diaz

Liverpool have spent big in the transfer window so far and they are not ruling out any more moves this summer.

The Reds have been one of the busiest teams in the market so far and after spending almost £300m, they wanted to make some sales before signing anyone else.

And, now that Luis Diaz has moved to Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to £65.5m, Liverpool can start looking to add some new recruits.

The Colombian certainly added a lot to Arne Slot’s team and many would expect a replacement to be sourced, although who that will be is unknown.

Of course, if they do break the British transfer record for the second time this summer for Alexander Isak, there is always a chance they do not buy anyone to replace Diaz and use the options they already have.

However, Slot has addressed this issue and has hinted about what Liverpool might do next in the transfer market.

As we have seen this summer, if the Reds have identified a target who they want, then they will do everything in their power to get them, and it has been working.

They wanted two new full-backs and got just that.

They wanted Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike despite many other clubs also trying to sign them, and they both made the switch to Anfield.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

The Reds are certainly not here to play games this summer and Slot has reiterated just that, with the Dutchman telling The Athletic that if an opportunity presents itself, they will waste no time in making a move.

We have more than a few players who can play in a number of positions.

“At this moment in time, we still have Cody Gakpo, Rio (Ngumoha) is showing very good signs, and I think Florian Wirtz can play from the left side as well.

But as I always say, another thing about Liverpool is that if we see a chance in the market, we never hesitate to bring someone in.”

He concluded by saying: “In the end, it’s about quality, and we have already made some very good signings.

In terms of quality, we are already in the right place.”

The Colombian had his best season to date in a Liverpool shirt last season and certainly showed signs of improvement in the final third, with his threat something that will be a miss.

However, with that being said, Cody Gakpo often played on the left anyway with Diaz through the middle, suggesting that they might not miss him as much as they think.

With Ekitike now the one most likely to play as the ‘number nine’, that is unless the Reds do sign Isak, then Diaz does not really need to be replaced.

Rio Ngumoha also looks like he is ready for some minutes, meaning he can cover Gakpo at points next season, so all in all, selling the 28-year-old for the transfer fee they got seems very good business indeed.
