Liverpool personnel high up in the club have responded to the Bradley Barcola transfer rumours as the title-holders continue to strengthen.

In a report by The Athletic (12 August), “senior Anfield figures dismissed” reports that Liverpool were pursuing Barcola.

The club believes that bringing in the Frenchman would “block the pathway” for youth talent Ngumoha who has impressed during pre-season.

Given Cody Gakpo remains the only left-winger currently in the squad, the youngster will be looking to get some minutes to develop this season under Arne Slot.

After notching two goals and two assists in pre-season for the Reds, it is no surprise the 16-year-old is the name on everyone’s lips.

Arguably, the move to sell Diaz to Bayern Munich raised eyebrows given the lack of depth on the left-wing.

However, the Colombian’s departure will mean less competition for the England Under-17 international who could be on to break onto the scene next season.

Whilst it is highly unlikely he’ll feature extensively in the Champions League and at the start of the Premier League campaign, expect him to sneak in to the starting XI in the FA Cup and the League Cup.

The number 73 is a tricky, nippy wide-man who loves to run at full-backs and I can envision him getting the Anfield crowd on their feet when on the ball.

Slot is the ideal manager to inspire the youth prodigy to rapidly excel and become a future star for the red half of Merseyside perhaps in the not so distant future.
