Man United finished their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina that became a victory when Kobbie Mainoo slammed home the final penalty of a 5-4 shoot-out win.

The Red Devils finished their 2025/26 pre-season preparations at Old Trafford, capping off an unbeaten summer under Ruben Amorim.

In five games, United beat West Ham and Bournemouth, and drew in normal time against Leeds United, Everton, and Fiorentina.

Against their Italian opposition, confusion over marking duties allowed Simon Sohm to arrive late at the back post, firing home from a corner.

However, United regained their composure, found an equaliser and proceeded to dominate the rest of the game.

And with a curtain-raiser against Arsenal on the horizon, Football Insider explores the winners, and the losers from a sunny afternoon at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko

Sesko rejected a move to Newcastle in favour of joining Man United, and the Slovenian striker was unveiled to the Old Trafford faithful before kick off.

But despite not touching the pitch other than to smile and wave, his presence, or lack thereof, has been felt this summer.

Matheus Cunha led the line, but the Brazilian is not a natural fit at number nine and with the former Wolves man and Bryan Mbeumo playing in the number 10 spots, Sesko looks primed to walk into the starting XI and make an immediate impact.

Mason Mount

Are we finally seeing the Mason Mount that United fans were promised?

A goal against Everton from the bench earned the England international a starting spot versus Fiorentina.

Mount repaid his manager by running the show for Man United, and although he was taken off before the penalty shootout took place, the 26-year-old will have given Amorim a massive selection headache before the club’s game against Arsenal in eight days time.

Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro’s nudge in the back of Robin Gosens forced the Fiorentina defender to put the ball into his own net, a decision that would have been overturned if VAR was in use, Keith Hackett told Football Insider exclusively.

However, even if the goal had not happened, the Frenchman once again proved himself to be a stellar addition to United’s backline.

Yoro is forever keen to progress the ball forwards and the defender appears to be growing in confidence with each game he plays in a red shirt.

Amad

Amorim clearly sees Amad as a right wing-back in his system, and has recruited Mbeumo and Cunha to play in his number 10 positions.

But against Fiorentina, the Ivorian showed discomfort in the position.

But whilst Sesko benefited, the same cannot be said for Onana.

Altay Bayindir had a quiet game in terms of saves, but the Turkish shot-stopper showed fantastic distribution with his feet and saved a key penalty in the shootout.

With Man United’s links to Gianluigi Donnarumma growing, and Bayindir proving himself capable of doing the thing Onana was signed to do, it’s hard to see a way back for the Cameroon international.

Ayden Heaven

Adyden Heaven enjoyed a stellar match against Fiorentina, and much like Yoro, is improving at a rapid rate.

The former Arsenal man played his part in United’s equaliser and was calm in possession.

Ayden Heaven suffered an injury against Fiorentina.

Well, a 70th-minute injury had Heaven down for over three minutes, and the defender limped off before being replaced by Matthijs de Ligt.

Earning your place back in a side can be hard enough when you’re a youngster, and that will be exacerbated by his poor injury track record.
