Xherdan Shaqiri has asked to leave Liverpool this summer and could potentially return to Italy, with Lazio reportedly showing interest in the 29-year-old.

This is despite the Liverpool manager saying sorry to Shaqiri back in 2019 after he went seven months without a single start.

It would be intriguing.” Lazio have already re-signed Felipe Anderson from West Ham United and with Joaquin Correa linked with a move elsewhere and Andreas Periera returning to Manchester United, Shaqiri would be a welcome addition.

Shaqiri has previously spent six months in Italy following a brief stint with Inter Milan between January and August in 2015, and Liverpool may be ready to sell the Swiss international as he enters the final year of his contract.

Shaqiri joined Liverpool back in 2018 for just £13million from Stoke City but has struggled to break into the first team since his arrival, only making 45 league appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side.

It is understood that Liverpool have accepted his desire to leave - and the Swiss international admitted: “I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge.

Lazio appear to be the favourites to land the Liverpool winger and when asked about a potential move Shaqiri admitted Sarri’s style of play would suit him and praised the impact of Lazio sporting director Igli Tare.
