Jota celebrated winning the Premier League title with his Liverpool team-mates in May, after a season in which he scored six goals in 26 appearances.
Last month he won the UEFA Nations League with his national team Portugal and just eleven days before the crash he married his long term partner, and mother to his three children, Rute Cardoso.
The Portuguese Football Federation said it was “devastated” to learn of the deaths, adding: “Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football.” Meanwhile Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo said he wishes Jota’s family “all the strength in the world”.
