Carlton Palmer has his concerns about Sheffield United after their disastrous start to life in the post-Chris Wilder era.
After falling at the last hurdle in the Play-off final against Sunderland at the end of last season, the Blades decided to part ways with Wilder following his second spell at the club.
The board brought in ex-Southampton boss Ruben Selles to bring a new era of success at Bramall Lane to get the Blades back into the Premier League after Wilder’s “head loss” was one of the factors in his sacking.
Yet, the season has started off appallingly with two defeats in two competitions, including losing 4-1 to Bristol City with Selles exploding on the touchline with frustration.

The shocking start to life under the Spaniard has even seen ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Palmer feeling sorry for his rivals.
A day after the Blades being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Championship newcomers Birmingham, the former Nottingham Forest player took to X (14 August) to give his thoughts on a dire situation at United.
In the post he said: “A month into the season and the Sheffield United hierarchy will regret sacking Chris Wilder.

“Passionate, loves the club, should have given him to Christmas and backed him and he would have delivered.”
The retired England international also took a dig at the current manager Selles, stating: “Won’t finish in the top six with this guy [Selles].
Stats are stats but your eyes don’t lie.”
Palmer then responded to a Wednesday fan who questioned why the ex-West Brom midfielder even cared about the rival club’s situation.
The former Leeds anchorman said: “I care about Sheffield, I want both teams contesting each other in the Premier League and the city is the winner.
But I always want Sheffield United to do well unless there playing us [Sheffield Wednesday].”

Football Insider verdict
When the club announced the appointment of the former Hull City manager following the sacking of his predecessor, I was rather confused.
Employing a manager who oversaw a horrendous spell with the Saints before nearly leading the Tigers to relegation from the second-tier does not fill anyone with confidence.
Indeed, he performed marginally better at Reading, but the Spaniard is not a coach with a glistening managerial record.

To Palmer’s point, Wilder was a man who deeply cared about his side and wanted to get them back where they belong in the Premier League.
Moreover, if wasn’t for the sheer brilliance of Leeds and Burnley last time out, the Blades were quids in to return to the English top-flight.
Football is a cruel game where loyalty can be thrown out the window in pursuit of more success, yet it appears the Sheffield United board have shot themselves in the foot here.
