Sheffield Wednesday want to sign a Man United youngster on loan after their transfer embargo was lifted by the EFL as the new Championship season looms.
Sheffield Wednesday’s crazy summer has seen a number of players leave for pastures new, while existing members of staff have gone three months without being paid due to controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri’s shortfalls.
The Hillsborough outfit’s squad has taken a battering, with Djeidi Gassama leaving to join Rangers, while Josh Windass departed and moved to Wrexham and Anthony Musaba left for Turkish side Samsunspor.
Chansiri wants over £100million from a prospective buyer to sell the club, and their Championship campaign was previously in doubt but it has been confirmed that they will play against Leicester on Saturday (9 August) at the very least.
New boss Henrik Pedersen has been unable to make new additions to his squad due a transfer embargo imposed by the EFL, but the Owls have now been taken off the governing body’s banned list [EFL], and are now looking at bolstering their squad as soon as possible.

Man United youngster Amass recently won the club’s Young Player of the Year after a breakout 2024/25 season in which he made seven first-team appearances across all competitions at just 18-years-old.
The left-back was recently left out of the Red Devils’ pre-season trip to the United States, as, according to the BBC, a decision has already been taken for him to go out on loan for the campaign ahead.
MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has now provided an update on his potential whereabouts, via X, stating that Amass is being targeted by Wednesday for a season-long loan deal.
BBC journalist Simon Stone previously claimed, via X, that there was interest in the 18-year-old from Championship teams and across Europe, and it now looks as if the Owls have stolen a march on their transfer rivals with a move on the table.
Football Insider verdict
While it is often tough to measure a young player’s ceiling in the game when they are only just breaking into senior football, what can be obvious is their current level of ability, and Amass is surely ready for an extended stay in the second-tier right now.
Wednesday fans will undoubtedly be happy to be linked to any player, whether they are a good signing or not, but they can be sure to get excited if the 18-year-old arrives, as he is an impressive talent who could emerge as one of the best left-backs in the Championship if the move is confirmed.

Amass instantly impressed on his debut against Leicester in March, and it is no wonder that Ruben Amorim wanted to hold onto him and give him a senior chance after Football Insider revealed back in November 2024 that EFL clubs were lining up loan moves for Amass in the January window.
Whether Wednesday will be able to sort their financial situation out to get his signature over the line remains to be seen, but if they do, they will hope that it kicks off a busy few weeks with numerous additions needed to fill out the squad.
