Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after the Anfield side announced that Adam Lewis had joined Livingston on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old moves to the Almondvale Stadium to link-up with Livi boss David Martindale. He led Livingston to a sixth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last term after replacing Gary Holt at the helm.

The Lions also finished as runners-up to St Johnstone for the 2021 Scottish League Cup, after losing the final 1-0. And missed out on European football by six points after failing to win any of their five Championship Group fixtures.

Lewis spent the first half of the 2020/21 season on loan at French second division side Amiens. He later sealed a move to Plymouth Argyle for the latter half of the campaign.  Altogether, the left-back made 29 appearances in all competitions, starting 15.

The Liverpool-born defender also struck his first goal in senior football for the Pilgrims in January against Sunderland. And later offered each of his assists for the season against Bristol Rovers to inspire a 2-0 win.

Lewis made his first and only appearance for the Liverpool first-team in February 2020 against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup. Jurgen Klopp left the 21-year-old as an unused substitute in his only other involvement in a matchday squad so far.

But some Liverpool fans are surprised to see Lewis now leave for Livingston on loan. That’s because they believe the defender has deserved more senior minutes at Anfield than he has so far received.

Others also believe Lewis is ready to serve as Andrew Robertson’s understudy, despite playing third-tier English football last season. That is not a stance shared by all, however, with a few questioning what future the 21-year-old has at Liverpool.
