Former Liverpool transfer target Dean Huijsen has been labelled as Real Madrid's 'signing of the century' after his impressive displays at the Club World Cup.
The club made it clear that they wanted to sign the former Roma central defender, but the 20-year-old only wanted to play at the Bernabeu.
While the transfer window has been a successful one having signed Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, Huijsen will certainly be considered as one who got away.
That feeling will only be made worse by his impressive performances under Xabi Alonso in the United States.
He has played the full 90 minutes in both of Real Madrid's matches, playing alongside Real Madrid academy star Raul Asencio.
According to the Mail in April, Slot wanted to sign both Huijsen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth as part of a £95m double deal.
While the Reds are close to an agreement to sign Kerkez, the fact Huijsen chose Real Madrid will likely sting Slot and co.
Kerkez will also provide competition at left-back for Andy Robertson, but the Scottish international has recently been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Spanish outlet Marca have also claimed that Liverpool central defender Ibrahima Konate is being viewed as a target for Real Madrid for the 2026/27 campaign.
