As Liverpool celebrate clinching their second Premier League title, Sir Alex Ferguson's prediction feels more relevant than ever.

The legendary former Manchester United manager tipped the Reds for a major resurgence under Jurgen Klopp, years before the German won the title in 2020.

That forecast has aged remarkably well, with Gary Neville now witnessing a scenario he once feared – Liverpool conquering the league again, this time under Arne Slot.

Five years ago, Jamie Carragher recalled how Ferguson, despite his United ties, was one of the few outside Anfield who genuinely believed Klopp could rebuild the Reds into a title-winning side after arriving in 2015.

Back then, Liverpool were miles off the pace, finishing 26 points behind champions Chelsea.

But Klopp wasted little time in closing the gap between his team and the elite of English and European football.

Although Klopp didn't lift another league trophy, he ensured Liverpool remained contenders for the game's biggest prizes until the end of his reign.

But many argue Slot has benefitted from the groundwork Klopp laid, especially after a commendable 82-point finish last season despite injury setbacks and a threadbare squad.

Slot now joins an elite group as the 12th manager to secure the Premier League title – and only the fifth to do so in his first campaign in English football.
