Sir Kenny Dalglish says he is praying for the family of Diogo Jota and brother Andre after the pair died in a car accident in Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Liverpool striker and his 26-year-old brother, who played for Portuguese side Penafiel, died after a tyre blew out on their car, resulting in a crash when attempting to overtake on the A52, known as the Palacios de Sanabria, according to local police.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 1am on Thursday morning, with the vehicle heading towards nearby Benavente but both men were later confirmed as having passed away as a result of the collision.

Tributes have inevitably poured in for the Portugal international throughout Thursday with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jurgen Klopp two of those who have led the tributes for the 28-year-old and his brother.

Sir Kenny has become the latest to offer his condolences to the Jota family in a social media post, saying: "Football is not important at this sad time.

"You feel helpless, knowing there’s so little we can do to ease the pain for his wife of just two weeks, his three beautiful children.

"Thinking and praying for all their loved ones after the devastating loss of both Diogo and Andre.

YNWA (You'll Never Walk Alone)."

Jota made 182 appearances during his five years as a Reds player, scoring 65 goals and winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
