Liverpool are working on a deal to sign the striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, having already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman.

Arne Slot will have a near full squad to choose from in total contrast to his first summer in charge at Anfield.

Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton have now linked up with the squad after their international exploits with England Under-21s earlier this summer.

And with no major international tournaments taking place this summer, Slot’s senior ranks are all available to him, as opposed to making staggered returns throughout pre-season as they did last year.

Ahead of Liverpool flying out to Asia, the ECHO has taken a look at what to keep an eye out for as the Reds’ embark on their pre-season tour of the Far East…

While Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Freddie Woodman all made unofficial debuts for Liverpool against Preston North End last weekend, there was no sign of club-record signing Florian Wirtz.

One of a number of senior stars left out of the matchday squad at Deepdale, it’s believed he was one of only two players, along with Ibrahima Konate, who did not travel to Lancashire.

However, supporters' appetite has since been whetted courtesy of the sight of Wirtz in training at the AXA Training Centre, with LFC TV on hand to capture how he is settling in.

Kopites will have to wait at least a further week to see the German make his unofficial debut for the club.

But all those of a Reds persuasion will be hungry to see Wirtz pull on a Liverpool shirt for the first time in Asia.

Liverpool will have all their star players with them in Asia.

Captain of his national team, he will be worshipped like no other back in his homeland.

With Liverpool’s second friendly in Asia taking place at the 72,327 capacity Nissan Stadium in Yokohoma, the Reds veteran is set to be a firm home favourite.

Liverpool need a new vice-captain this summer following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

But it’s not official until it’s confirmed.

While Frimpong and Kerkez both made their unofficial Liverpool debuts last weekend, they both had to wait until half-time to pull on the Reds shirt for the first time as Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas were given the nod to start.

It’s a changing of the guard in the two positions for Liverpool this summer, with the club spending a combined £69.5m on their two full-back additions as they go into a campaign without Alexander-Arnold and Robertson as undisputed first-choice since 2019.

Slot will surely utilise all his options throughout pre-season, with starting berths very much up for grabs.

It remains to be seen who will establish themselves as first-choice, as Frimpong and Kerkez both look to settle in quickly.

With virtually a full quota of senior stars available, Slot has little need to fill his squad with Liverpool youngsters this summer.

But the Dutchman will still wish to take a look at some of the club’s next talents.

Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni both caught the eye when starting against Preston, along with Luca Stephenson, while Ben Doak claimed an assist after being introduced at half-time.

Amara Nallo and Lewis Koumas also both featured, while summer signing Armin Pecsi, Kieran Morrison and Tommy Pilling were unused on the bench.

Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are arguably the two currently attracting most attention, while Harvey Elliott's future is also uncertain as he reports back following international duty.

If any star players do not travel to Asia or are left out of either of their friendly line-ups, it will surely set tongues wagging about their futures.

The Liverpool squad departs for Hong Kong on Sunday could easily end up looking a little different when they return at the end of the month.
