Sky Germany has provided the latest update on Liverpool’s move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
The Premier League champions opened talks with Frankfurt over a deal for Ekitike, with the player open to moving to Anfield this summer.
The Frenchman has already agreed personal terms with the Reds and is now waiting for a club-to-club agreement, which is aided by Liverpool’s strong relationship with Frankfurt.
Ekitike has already handed in a transfer request to leave Frankfurt, and a move to the Premier League is becoming increasingly likely.
Frankfurt rejected an offer of €80m (£69.4m) for Ekitike earlier this week from Newcastle United, who have subsequently cooled their interest in the 23-year-old.
Eddie Howe’s side are now considering a move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.
It is believed that a bid closer €100m (£86.7m) would persuade Frankfurt to part ways with one of their key players this summer.
Ekitike has become one of the most in-demand young forwards in Europe over the last 12 months following his impressive performances last season.
Liverpool’s desire for a new striker is nothing new, having already been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but the 25-year-old is not for sale at any price this summer.
Despite ending up as the Premier League’s leading goalscorers with 86 goals, Arne Slot’s side want to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.
Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool after struggling last term under Arne Slot.
Though he featured in 47 games, the 26-year-old started only 17 times, with just eight of them coming in the Premier League.
The former Benfica forward scored only seven goals as Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz were both preferred at centre-forward ahead of him.
Ekitike has been identified as Nunez’s replacement.
Liverpool have presented a bid to Frankfurt close to €80m, and according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, both clubs are yet to reach an agreement.
He posted on X: “By Thursday evening, there had been no agreement between Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool regarding Hugo #Ekitike.
“Negotiations are continuing today.
So far, Liverpool have made one written offer.

“Ekitike wants Liverpool?
Personal terms are almost agreed, and now he is waiting for the clubs.”
