Sky Sports has confirmed when Liverpool plans to open talks with Luis Diaz.

Contract talks have been one of the discussions that have dominated the Liverpool news mill this season.

Amid their run to winning the Premier League title, the Reds’ hierarchy has been in contract discussions with a few of the first-team players.

Jarell Quansah, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are among those who have put pen to paper on new deals this season.

But Diaz, Ibrahima Konate, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have yet to sign a new deal despite being offered a chance to extend their contract at the club.

The Colombian winger, whose 16 goals and five assists across all competitions solidified his role in Arne Slot’s system, now faces a summer of uncertainty amid stalled contract talks.

Diaz’s £55,000-per-week deal runs until 2027, meaning that he will soon be within a year of his deal expiring – all while his market value continues to drop with age.

Barcelona have been linked with the attacker, but Fabrizio Romano has also warned of Saudi interest.

Romano suggests that the 28-year-old may have a big decision on his hands this summer.

Sporting director Deco views Diaz as a cost-effective alternative to Nico Williams, with the Blaugrana frequently linked with a + £50m move.

The player’s father, Luis Manuel Díaz, fueled speculation in 2023, stating: “Playing for Barça is his dream”

However, amid the constant chatter around his future, it is being reported that Liverpool plans to sort out the 28-year-old’s future in the coming days.

Well-known Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra was the first to report that Liverpool wants to open talks with Diaz in the coming weeks and keep him at the club.

Sky Sports has now picked up on the story, confirming that the Reds will sit down with Diaz and his representatives in the summer.

Díaz’s season wasn’t without struggles?

An 11-game goal drought between January and March 2025 saw him criticised for erratic decision-making and scoring goals in bunches.

He and his entourage will surely be asking for a sizeable increase in wages, and for a club known for managing their wage structure so strictly, there may be some compromise needed from both parties over the summer.
