Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has confirmed that Manchester City are working to sign one player Liverpool wants.

The Reds have pencilled down several players as targets this summer.

One area of the pitch that may require an addition this summer is the right-back position.

Real Madrid are pushing to secure his early release for the Club World Cup (June 15–July 13), offering a nominal €1m (£850k) fee to ensure his availability before his contract expires on June 30.

While Liverpool weighs the proposal, attention shifts to replacing their academy graduate.

Conor Bradley (21) is poised for a prominent role, but injuries and inexperience necessitate competition.

Several players have been named as potential names Liverpool could sign to compete with Bradley for the right-back position, including Jeremie Frimpong, Wesley, Givairo Read and most recently, Vanderson.

Flamengo right-back Wesley is one of the players that Liverpool have scouted for some time now.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has established himself as one of the most promising talents in South American football.

His attacking ability and his defensive qualities have caught the eye of several top clubs, including some of Liverpool’s fiercest rivals.

His agent recently held talks with Liverpool, who are said to have been scouting him for over a year now.

But it appears Manchester City are making real plans to snap him up ahead of the Reds.

Reliable journalist Gianluca DiMarzio recently reported that Manchester City want the player and “would like to close before the Club World Cup, which will see them play in Miami after the end of the championship.”

And now, Sky Sport’s Lyall Thomas has confirmed City’s interest, revealing that “the 21-year-old Brazil international is one of a number of names the club are looking at in this position for the summer.”

Wesley has been tracked by many Premier League and European clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

He has emerged as one the next top talents in Brazil and it is reports say that he could cost as much as £30m.
