Sky Sports report that Andy Robertson has sustained a hamstring injury and may miss the start of the 19/20 Premier League season.

They claimed that the Liverpool full-back would miss Scotland’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Belgium and that the injury he is struggling with could rule him out of action until August.

The 25-year-old was absent from the clash, but what makes Sky Sports’ claim odd is that manager Steve Clarke mentioned that Robertson had trained the night before and was unlucky to miss out.

Speaking ahead of the game, Clarke told Sky Sports: “It’s disappointing to lose someone of Andy’s experience – certainly for a game like this.

“He tried everything he could [to be ready for today], he did the training session last night, but he woke up and still felt it so no good.” Robertson scored a brilliant goal from range against Cyprus at the weekend but despite Sky’s odd report, it doesn’t seem likely that he will be out for too long.

Since joining Liverpool for a reported £10million fee in 2017, Robertson has become one of the club’s most important players and was key to the Reds’ winning the 2019 Champions League final.

His relative youth means that Klopp will be blessed with his work rate and pinpoint deliveries from the flank for several more years.
