The Englishman was hampered by injuries during his first season in Turkey, and was frozen out by then manager Giovanni van Bronkhorst at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
After the Dutchman’s sacking, he eventually worked his way back into the side, racking up 50 appearances and scoring five goals for Besiktas.
He earned 35 caps for England, scoring seven goals between 2012 and 2019.
The 32-year-old began his career at Southampton before moving to Arsenal in 2011, where he played 198 times, scored 20 goals, and won three FA Cups.
He joined Liverpool in 2017, winning a host of trophies including the Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
In total, he scored 18 goals in 146 appearances for the Reds.
