Trent Alexander-Arnold is now a two-time Premier League champion, yet this season is looking likely to be the defender’s last at Liverpool.
The 26-year-old right-back’s contract with the Anfield side is due to expire in the summer, with Alexander-Arnold expected to join Real Madrid as a free agent after nearly a year of talks and speculation surrounding a move.
With Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signing new deals with Liverpool, there’s always been a small bit of hope that Alexander-Arnold could turn tail on a move to Madrid and put pen to paper on fresh terms with his boyhood club.
And David Ornstein has now offered a potential ray of hope that Alexander-Arnold could now do just that in the coming weeks.

Speaking on the Athletic FC Podcast, the respected journalist hinted that the door is ‘slightly ajar’ on Alexander-Arnold signing a new contract with Liverpool, with a deal to join Madrid yet to be completely finalised.
Ornstein said about Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool: “It’s long since been the case that we’re expecting him to join Real Madrid, but of course, until absolutely everything is finalised, that door is just slightly ajar.”
Having now won the Premier League title, there could be a potential shift in Alexander-Arnold’s thinking in regards to leaving Liverpool, a club where the defender is already a legend and could want to cement his status in the years to come.

However, with Madrid as big of a club as they are and Alexander-Arnold having a dream of winning the Ballon d’Or, all signs still seem to point towards the 26-year-old defender joining the Spanish giants, who have been hard at work in trying to bring the fullback to La Liga.
It would be the ultimate flourish to end the season on if Alexander-Arnold decided to reject a move to Madrid to stay at Liverpool, with the fullback one of the key reasons why Arne Slot was able to secure the title in his first year in charge with the Reds.
However, even the most optimistic of Liverpool fans already know that Alexander-Arnold is set on joining Madrid, with Los Blancos working on bringing the defender to Spain for the best part of a year as a free agent signing.
Indeed, Alexander-Arnold signing a new deal with Liverpool would have been seismic, but there’s simply too much evidence to suggest that the defender will be joining Madrid this summer, in what will be a bitter blow for the Reds.
