Andy Robertson has been installed as Liverpool’s new vice-captain.

Robertson takes over as Virgil van Dijk’s second in command following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer.

The Scotland international, who already captains his country, assumes the leadership role in his ninth season at Anfield, having won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Arne Slot confirmed that Robertson was his designated choice to become the Reds’ deputy ahead of this weekend’s showdown with Arsenal.

“He’s played here so many years, won the league twice,” explained Slot.

“He’s a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room.

“Apart from all the quality he’s shown on the pitch, he also plays a big role in the culture we have here at this club which is the biggest gift I could get from Jurgen Klopp.”
