Arne Slot has had to make some big calls this season but some are proving to be spot on.

The Reds have had a very strange start to the new season but after making it five wins from five, they will not complain too much.

Last-minute winners have been required in all of these matches so far, but nothing should be taken away from Slot’s decision making to help Liverpool get over the line.

One big decision he has had to make was bringing Andy Robertson back into the team as Milos Kerkez has struggled to adapt thus far.

The Scotsman excelled off the bench against Burnley and put in another good shift against Atletico Madrid, proving that he still has the quality needed.

But, there was another decision that Slot made in the summer that impacted the experienced left-back, but the 31-year-old has proven that his manager has made the right choice.

At one point in the summer, it looked as if Robertson might depart Anfield, with Atletico Madrid one of the teams keen on him.

But, the Scotsman opted to stay instead and continue his Liverpool career for at least one more season, even if that meant playing a bit-part role.

After holding down the left-back position since he basically arrived in 2017, it could not have been easy knowing that he was being replaced for Kerkez.

But, the defender has remained professional and is working hard to push the new left-back all the way, proving that Slot made the right choice by making him the vice captain.

“It’s part and parcel of football,” Robertson said on TNTSports when asked about how it felt not to be first-choice anymore.

“When you’re at a club like Liverpool, you expect to be challenged every single season, this one has been a little different as they have brought in someone who is going to start, so that meant it was a bit of a difficult summer for me.

“But once I made my mind up I committed to it.

I’m taking positives and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

At the start of the season, it looked nailed on that Kerkez would be first-choice and Robertson would have to play second fiddle.

But now, the pendulum appears to have swung in the Scotsman’s favour, proven by the fact he started against Atletico.

It would also not be a surprise to see him get the nod against Everton too on Saturday, with his experience something that could prove invaluable.

Last season looked as if he was slowing up and he was coming to the end of his stay on Merseyside, but now he looks rejuvenated and there is a strong chance he could even extend his contract further.
