'Some player': Conor Bradley says Liverpool have an 'unbelievable' new signing who he's about to play against

Liverpool players are embarking on their first international break of the season after a good start to the campaign domestically.

The Reds have three wins from three in the Premier League, all while integrating some big new signings.

Until Alexander Isak’s arrival on Monday, Florian Wirtz was the biggest of these, the German arriving for a record fee from Bayer Leverkusen.

Wirtz has not quite sparkled just yet, but given the talent he possesses, it should not be long before he does.

In the meantime, the 22-year-old has been in action for Germany.

7 and his countrymen will have the chance to make amends when they face Northern Ireland this weekend.

And ahead of that meeting, new teammate Conor Bradley has been looking ahead to facing Wirtz.

While Germany were being stunned by Slovenia on Thursday, Northern Ireland were having a decidedly better night.

Michael O’Neill’s team began their World Cup qualifying campaign on the right foot with a 3-1 win over Luxembourg.

After his recent injury troubles, Bradley did not play the full match, but that he managed 77 minutes will be encouraging for Liverpool fans.

And speaking to BBC Sport Northern Ireland after the game, the right-back was asked if he’d been WhatsApp messaging with Wirtz ahead of Sunday’s meeting in Cologne.

“A few jokes before we came away, but no WhatsApps yet,” Bradley chuckled.

“But no, obviously Florian is an unbelievable player, I’ve seen that in the few weeks we’ve had with him and in pre-season too.

“He’s some player and I’ll have to keep him quiet on Sunday night.”

As Liverpool legend Steve Nicol noted in the aftermath of Germany’s loss on Thursday, Wirtz was playing on the left against Slovakia.

If Julian Nagelsmann decides to deploy the same tactics against Northern Ireland, then Wirtz will come up directly against Bradley.

It will not be an easy battle for the German to win, either.

His match-up with Wirtz could be one for the ages.

In the meantime, Arne Slot will be watching on and simply hoping that neither player picks up any problems.

That Bradley got almost a full game in the tank on Thursday is great news for Slot, and with Jeremie Frimpong expected fit after the international break, should mean that Liverpool have their two right-backs available to face Burnley on September 14th.
