Arsenal are facing a delay in tying centre-back William Saliba down to a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Over the summer, Saliba was linked with the likes of Real Madrid, who are long-term admirers of the French international.
Now, the Gunners have reportedly offered the 24-year-old a new deal, and are accelerating negotiations to try and ward off any interest.
However, sources say that a big contract extension like this will take time to finalise, meaning that the north London side are unlikely to see a conclusion to the situation in the immediate future.

Saliba currently has just under two years remaining on his contract, which usually wouldn’t be any cause for concern.
However, the French defender is widely thought of as one of the best centre-backs in the world, meaning the interest around his availability is heightened.
With Real Madrid sniffing around, Arsenal want to ensure there is no chance that the former St Etienne man is persuaded to make the move to the Spanish capital.

Saliba is currently returning from an ankle injury he sustained against Liverpool, and is now back on the grass, with Mikel Arteta hoping he is available for selection as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have reportedly begun working behind the scenes to identify new transfer targets ahead of the January and summer windows in 2026.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Arteta is eyeing an overhaul of his squad depth.
One player who is facing the axe as part of the manager’s long-term plans is Leandro Trossard, despite still being regarded as an “important” player for the first team.

Trossard agreed to sign a new contract at the Emirates last month, but the deal did not extend his stay at the Emirates, with his terms set to expire in 2027.
