Aston Villa are advancing in talks to re-sign Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain, sources have told Football Insider.
Unai Emery is a big fan of the Spain international and keen to get him back to Villa Park, having signed him on loan in the January transfer window.
Sources say that talks between the relevant parties are underway and progressing well.
Asensio has one year remaining on his current contract with PSG, so a move away could suit both the player and club.
PSG are believed to be open to a cut-price fee to remove him from their wage bill given that he is understood to be a high earner.
Asensio could leave PSG
Aston Villa have been keen to re-sign Asensio following his impressive six-month loan spell last season.
The 29-year-old made the temporary switch to the Midlands halfway through the campaign and scored eight goals in all competitions for Emery’s side.

However, earlier this summer, it seemed that Villa had pulled the plug on a move for Asensio due to concerns about wage demands and high costs.
Now though, the Premier League side are again working to agree terms and bring the Spaniard back to Villa Park on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are one of five sides in the race for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider.
Jackson has made his desire to leave Stamford Bridge clear, after the recent incomings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
Emery’s side are joined by fellow Premier League club Newcastle United in the battle to sign the striker, as well as Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Juventus.
The Magpies are interested in the Senegal international after seeing one of their top targets, Benjamin Sesko, join Manchester United.
