Unai Emery is expected to integrate Emiliano Martinez back into his Aston Villa plans during the international break despite his plans to leave during the summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 33-year-old’s future at Villa Park after making clear his desire to join Man United.

Any issues or tension caused by the goalkeeper’s desire to leave during the transfer window are believed to have been squashed, with all parties keen to move on.

This comes after former Villa and United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 2 September that Martinez is “disappointed” not to have joined Man United.

However, the Argentina international has been urged to get on with his game at Villa Park as he aims to work his way back into Emery’s plans for the season.

Football Insider revealed on 5 September that Martinez is prepared to stay at Aston Villa and will snub moves to the Saudi Pro League or Turkish Super Lig as a result.

Football Insider revealed on 24 August that Emery had no plans to let Martinez leave despite his departure having been seen as “inevitable” earlier this summer.

New signing Marco Bizot had a frustrating start to his Villa Park career after conceding three goals at home to Crystal Palace, and his teammate is now set to regain his place.

O’Rourke explained that any issues between Emery and Martinez have been resolved, with the focus now on improving Villa’s fortunes after a difficult start to the season.

“It’s a huge boost for Villa that Martinez is still at the club,” he told Football Insider.

“I think there’s no doubt that he will come back into that Villa starting XI.

“There was a lot of speculation about his future and that’s why he was left out against Palace, with Marco Bizot coming into the team to replace him.

“Unai Emery would have been disappointed to see him leave during the transfer window.

“If there were any issues between them, or issues caused by Martinez wanting to leave the club, they will have been resolved now.

“It’s a win-win for Villa, they will keep hold of Martinez who has shown over time what a top goalkeeper he can be for them.

“It’s been a slow start to the season as well for Villa, so keeping hold of one of their best players can only be a huge boost for them.”

Alongside having kept Martinez, Villa also managed to strengthen their squad with the addition of Man United winger Jadon Sancho on a deadline day loan deal.

Now, Football Insider has revealed Villa will consider signing Sancho permanently should he hit the ground running at Villa Park following the international break.

With just one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, a number of clubs are set to keep an eye on his performances at Villa Park with permanent moves in mind.

However, Football Insider revealed on 5 August that Man United plan to extend Sancho’s deal thanks to a clause in his contract which gives them the option for an additional year.
