Brendan Rodgers would need to receive a “big offer” from a Premier League club to walk away from Celtic before the end of his contract.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the manager’s long-term future amid growing speculation at Parkhead.

This comes after a frustrating week for the boss, after being eliminated from the Champions League before a frustrating 0-0 draw against Rangers at Ibrox.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 28 August that Rodgers expects to be backed by Celtic in the transfer market before Monday’s deadline.

He is believed to have been left annoyed by the lack of urgency put towards improving his squad, demonstrated by recent poor results domestically and in Europe.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 27 August that Rodgers is high on the shortlist at Nottingham Forest and is in contention for the role should it become available.

Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Rodgers has not closed the door on leaving Celtic with just one year remaining on his current contract with the Hoops.

No talks have been held about a potential extension, throwing his future into doubt, while the opportunity to return to English football is said to be an intriguing prospect.

However, O’Rourke explained that he is currently considered unlikely to walk away from his deal after previously confessing he regretted joining Leicester in 2019.

“He’s into the final year at Celtic brings its own jeopardy,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s been no seemingly talks or anything close to being agreed at Celtic which obviously opens the door for a potential move away.

“I’m sure Brendan Rodgers won’t be rushing out of Celtic right now.

“It would have to be a big offer or a big opportunity for him to leave the club because he’s done it before and he said he regretted it when he made that move to Leicester.

“The Premier League is the biggest league in Europe and that is tempting for a lot of managers.

“But the focus for Brendan Rodgers right now is on the transfer market to try and improve his Celtic squad between now and the transfer deadline.”

As they enter the final hours of the transfer window, Celtic remain determined to strengthen their squad, with a new striker top of their list of targets.

Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Celtic have enquired about Bristol City’s Fally Mayulu and are keen to explore the possibility of a move before the deadline.

However, Leicester City have also registered their interest in Mayulu and are exploring a late move with a loan deal now on the cards at the King Power Stadium.

Mayulu’s current contract at Bristol City is set to run until 2028, placing them in a strong position with regard to his long-term future.
