Sources: Bruno Fernandes could now 'reconsider' his position and quit Man United

Bruno Fernandes has been tipped to leave Man United amid ongoing interest from a number of Saudi Pro League clubs.

Fernandes rejected offers from Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window in favour of staying at Old Trafford to help Ruben Amorim‘s side recover from a dismal season.

However, after another poor start in the Premier League with just one win from their opening four games, questions are being asked about his future once again.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 31-year-old could reconsider his position should United fail to show clear improvement.

Sources say the decision could be made after the World Cup and Amorim will be key if he can turn around the club’s recent fortunes.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 11 September that Man United will not rule out selling Fernandes with an “incredible” offer mooted.

The club captain remains a crucial part of their plans for the season, but with the big-money interest lingering, he will likely be presented with another chance to leave.

After last season’s 15th-placed finish, another similar season will give the Portugal international a significant decision to make about his future.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I would fully expect that Saudi interest to continue.

It hasn’t really gone away.

“There was talks held with his agent and everything else, but Fernandes decided to stay at Manchester United.

“He is happy at United right now, but I think a lot will depend on how Man United do this season.

“If they were to endure another struggle in the Premier League and everything else, then Fernandes could reconsider his position at the end of the season and move on.

“If Fernandes does decide to move, look, there’s been no shortage of interest from the Saudi Pro League.

“Look, once the World Cup and everything is done next year, if Man United still are not showing any progress under Amorim, that will maybe go along with deciding Fernandes’ future and what he wants to do.”

After another slow start to the season, and in the wake of Man United’s 3-0 defeat to Man City, there has been little to prove to the midfielder that progress is being made.

Amorim remains under pressure at Man United after their awful start to the season, ranking 14th in the Premier League and having been knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Brown told Football Insider on 7 September that Amorim’s position at Man United is under threat and defeats against City and Chelsea could prove costly.

The hefty defeat to City has led to further questions, as Man United have endured their worst start to the season wince 1992-93 with just four points from four games.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Man United could accept offers for Fernandes after deciding behind the scenes that £100million would be enough.

The decision to reject offers from Saudi Arabia has done little to deter their interest, with the likes of Al Hilal and Al Nassr still showing significant interest.
