Celtic are plotting a move to sign former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill on a free transfer following his departure from Turf Moor.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 29-year-old’s future as talks begin to gather pace amid growing interest.
Brendan Rodgers’ side believe the allure of Champions League football could help them beat off rival clubs in the race for his signature.
However, they will be matched in their ambitions of signing the midfielder by a number of teams in the Premier League, while MLS clubs are also interested.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 5 May that Everton and West Ham want to sign Brownhill and are set to go head-to-head for his signature this summer.
Following that, former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Hammers are confident of signing Brownhill and are closing in on a move.

Football Insider revealed on 22 July that Celtic want to sign a new central midfielder as Rodgers aims to improve the spine of his team in the transfer market.
The boss believes Brownhill will add experience to his side, while his 18 goals and six assists in 42 Championship games last time out have made him a leading candidate.
O’Rourke explained that Celtic may find it difficult to pull off a deal for the former Burnley man, but are hopeful of completing what would be a “very smart addition”.
“It’ll be a tough race too sign Josh Brownhill,” he told Football Insider.
“Celtic will be hoping the allure of Champions League football might give them an edge in the race, and that’s the big advantage they have, but I think there’ll be fierce competition for his signature.
“West Ham are interested, I think there’ll be interest from abroad in Brownhill as well, and I also think MLS clubs will be looking at him.
“I think he’d be a very shrewd signing for Celtic if there were able to get him.
“He’s 29 now and would add a lot of experience to that Celtic midfield.
“I think he’d be a very smart addition to the plans for Brendan Rodgers, but I just think there’ll be a lot of competition that could make it a difficult deal for Celtic to pull off.”

Brownhill is not the only midfielder on Rodgers’ radar in the final month of the transfer window, as Celtic have also set their sights on Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 1 August that Celtic could agree a deal for Bajcetic “in the next couple of days”.
Liverpool are open to letting him leave either permanently or on loan, with a loan-to-buy deal most likely at this stage as they aim to raise pure profit from his sale.
Football Insider revealed in August 2024 that Liverpool were inundated with offers for Bajcetic, before he spent last season on loan at RB Salzburg and later Las Palmas.
