Harvey Elliott’s future at Liverpool could be dictated by Chelsea’s late transfer business with their pursuit of Xavi Simons key to the deal.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Elliott’s future at Liverpool and the ongoing negotiations surrounding a move away.

The 22-year-old is widely expected to leave Anfield before the window closes, but his ultimate destination remains unclear despite the German outfit’s interest.

Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Leipzig are pushing to sign Elliott and currently lead the race ahead of a number of clubs including Tottenham.

However, they are aiming to raise funds through Simons’ sale before advancing in their move for the Liverpool star and otherwise may be unable to agree terms.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea will sign Simons if they sell Christopher Nkunku, with dominoes still yet to fall.

Liverpool are aiming to make £40million from his sale in an attempt to balance the books after a big-spending summer window at Anfield.

However, O’Rourke explained that Chelsea currently hold the keys to his departure, with negotiations between all parties ongoing this week.

“RB Leipzig still there exploring this move for Harvey Elliott,” he told Football Insider.

“There has been some talks held between the two clubs and the Elliott’s representatives.

“A lot will depend on what Leipzig do with Xavi Simons and his potential move to Chelsea.

“If Simons makes that move to Chelsea, then it gives Leipzig money to go out there and spend on Harvey Elliott.

“They do see him as a potential like for like replacement for the Dutch international as well.

“With Liverpool still in the market for new signings, they are open to selling Elliott.

“And I think for Elliott himself, he was an unused sub against Bournemouth last Friday on the opening Premier League game this season.

“He might decide now that he needs to move on in search of regular first team football.“

While speculation about Elliott’s future continues, the Reds remain keen to bolster their squad and are still eyeing a late move to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Liverpool are working to agree a deal for Guehi and are hopeful Palace will accept cut-price offers late in the window.

Palace’s asking price, originally believed to be around £40million, has now dropped by £5million, but Liverpool still see the price tag as higher than they’re willing to pay.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Liverpool have re-opened talks with Palace, but his valuation has left talks at a deadlock.
