Chelsea are struggling to attract buyers for Raheem Sterling before the transfer deadline as a result of his “huge” weekly wage at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 30-year-old’s future as Enzo Maresca remains keen for him to move on.
Sterling is earning around £300,000 per week at Chelsea, putting off any potential suitors who would be unable to match his lofty demands.
This comes after former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider in July that Chelsea want to sell Sterling to cut their wage bill.
The winger has no place in Maresca’s plans for the future and is unlikely to feature for the Blues this season, increasing their desire to cash in.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Sterling wants to stay in the Premier League and is “certain” to leave Stamford Bridge.

Brown told Football Insider on 21 August that Sterling’s agent has held talks with West Ham alongside a number of other clubs to sound out their interest.

However, no formal offers have been made for the winger despite a number of Premier League and European clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.
O’Rourke explained that the Blues have been attempting to drum up interest as they are keen to move him on, but have yet to find any suitors who can match his wages.
“We know that Chelsea are open to letting Sterling leave before the close of the window,” he told Football Insider.
“He spent last season at Arsenal because he wasn’t in the plans at Chelsea.
“He still doesn’t remain in those plans, Chelsea are willing to let Sterling move on.
“He’s a bit of an outcast at Stamford Bridge, but he’s still a very experienced Premier League player.

“A few clubs in the Premier League will be looking at Sterling’s situation and hoping that they can maybe lure him away.
“There are clubs across Europe looking at Sterling as well.
“The problem for a lot of these clubs is the huge salary, because he’s on well over £300,000 per week at Chelsea and that could be hard for other teams to get to.
“Maybe Chelsea might have to pay a portion of that salary if some of those clubs are to follow up their interest in Sterling.
“As things stand, they’re struggling to attract interest in him.”
While they push ahead with plans to cash in on a number of fringe players, Chelsea remain keen to bolster their squad and have set their sights on Xavi Simons.

Brown told Football Insider on 22 August that Chelsea will accelerate their move for Simons using the money from the potential sale of Christopher Nkunku.
In what has been another busy summer in West London, the boss remains keen to strengthen his squad with work ongoing behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 19 August that Nkunku wants to return to the Bundesliga, as both Bayern Munich and Leipzig are prepared to make late moves.
