Galatasaray are preparing to step up their interest in Man City star Ederson after they were dealt a blow in their pursuit of Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the Turkish giants’ hunt for a new goalkeeper as the 32-year-old remains their “priority target”.

Costa had been viewed as a potential alternative to the Brazilian, but Porto are not willing to let him leave for less than his £63million release clause, making the deal unlikely.

Instead, they will return with a fresh move for Ederson, after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that City are prepared to sell Ederson.

James Trafford has started both of City’s Premier League games so far this season with the Brazil international on the bench amid ongoing speculation.

Brown first told Football Insider in February that Ederson would be allowed to leave Man City at the end of the season amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Football Insider revealed in April that Ederson is increasingly likely to leave Man City as he remains open to a big-money move away.

A number of Saudi Pro League sides have held a long-term interest in the goalkeeper, but Galatasaray have now emerged as the front-runners.

O’Rourke explained that the Turkish giants have once again set their sights on the Man City goalkeeper and they are working on getting a deal over the line.

“It was a surprise link for Galatasaray with Diogo Costa from Porto,” he told Football Insider.

“My understanding is that Porto rejected that offer from Galatasaray out of hand and aren’t interested in selling Costa.

“He’s got a huge release clause in his contract at Porto, I believed around £63million.

“Unless that was met, there’s no way Porto will consider selling him, especially for what Galatasaray offered which was around £17million.

“We know Galatasaray are in the market for a goalkeeper and Ederson remains their first choice.

“Obviously there’s been talks ongoing between Galatasaray and Manchester City.

“I think they’ll continue to try and get this deal for Ederson over the line.

He remains the priority target.”

Ederson is not the only City star who could be moving to Galatasaray this summer, as they remain firmly interested in agreeing a deal for Manuel Akanji.

However, Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Akanji could reject a move to Galatasaray as he would prefer to remain in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

This comes after the defender disputed claims from Fabrizio Romano that a deal had been agreed for his transfer, throwing his situation into uncertainty.

Given the injury issues of the likes of John Stones and City’s defensive problems the Switzerland international remains an important squad player at the Etihad.
