Crystal Palace are l to sign two new centre-backs as Marc Guehi completes his move to Liverpool before the transfer deadline.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 25-year-old’s future and the likelihood of a move to Anfield at this stage.
Arne Slot‘s side saw a £35million offer rebuffed by the South London club, who are holding out for a deal worth a total of £40million including add-ons to sell their captain.
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Palace are likely to accept Liverpool’s new Guehi offer, with negotiations continuing behind the scenes.
The Eagles are closing in on a deal to sign Toulouse star Jaydee Canvot [Fabrizio Romano], but are preparing to add another defender should Guehi leave.
This comes after the Eagles moved quickly to replace Eberechi Eze with the signing of Yeremy Pino, following the England international’s move to Arsenal.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in February that Palace had already identified Guehi’s replacement, but any deal has now become complicated.

Oliver Glasner is understood to be extremely reluctant to lose his star man after publicly stating that it would be “impossible” to land an adequate replacement.
O’Rourke explained that Palace chairman Steve Parish has an “extremely difficult” decision to make with the window set to close on 1 September.
“Palace find themselves in an extremely difficult position,” he told Football Insider.
“Marc Guehi could sign a pre-contract in January and walk out for free next summer, which would be a huge blow to Palace.

“Palace right now as well, if they let Guehi leave before the deadline, probably need to bring in two defenders to try and replace him.
“They’re racing against the clock as well to try and bring in reinforcements.
“So yeah, that one’s up in the air at the minute.
“Talks are ongoing still between the two clubs to see something can be resolved.”
Guehi is not the only player at Selhurst Park being linked with a move away, as Adam Wharton continues to attract high-profile interest from across Europe.
Brown told Football Insider on 28 August that Man United, Real Madrid and Liverpool want Wharton, but there is “no way” he will be allowed to leave Palace this summer.

However, Europe’s elite clubs are keeping an eye on his development with long-term moves in mind as he is expected to become available in 2026.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Crystal Palace will turn down approaches for Wharton as they have no plans to let him leave the club.
