Fleetwood Town goalkeeper David Harrington is expected to leave the club before the close of the window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Wales international has been left out of Fleetwood’s squad for their opening three league games of the season, after turning down a new deal at Highbury.

Cork-born Harrington had a breakout campaign for the Cod Army last season with 21 appearances in all competitions, including 20 in League Two as Pete Wild’s side finished 14th in the table.

However, Harrington has only featured once so far in the new campaign as Fleetwood lost their Carabao Cup first-round tie to Barnsley, losing 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time at Oakwell.

Jay Lynch, who only featured in three league games last season, has already matched that tally this term to displace Harrington as Fleetwood‘s number one, and the 25-year-old now looks set to depart.

Football Insider revealed last November that Championship sides Swansea and Huddersfield were both keen on Harrington, following impressive appearances at Highbury and a call-up into the Wales squad.

Huddersfield are now managed by ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant, but have already added to their stocks between the sticks this summer with a loan move for Crystal Palace‘s Owen Goodman.

Swansea manager Alan Sheehan has also been shopping in League Two, signing Paul Farman from Barrow as well as Brentford‘s Evan Anderson with Harrington’s Fleetwood future still in doubt.

Harrington was called into Craig Bellamy‘s squad in November 2024 but failed to get onto the pitch against Turkey or Iceland, having previously spent time in the Republic of Ireland‘s senior training camp.

He isn’t the only player who could be in demand at Highbury this summer, after Football Insider revealed on 14 August that Ryan Graydon is attracting attention from Plymouth Argyle, Aberdeen and Wigan.

Wild’s squad is still taking shape with the new season underway and Fleetwood sat in the League Two play-off places early on, but it remains to be seen if Harrington is set for a move up the English pyramid.
