Arsenal will allow Gabriel Jesus to complete a move back to Brazil this summer after his fall down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Jesus’ uncertain long-term future at the Emirates.

Jesus remains stuck on the sidelines for the time being after suffering an ACL injury in January, and the Brazilian will find himself as Arsenal’s third-choice striker at best once he completes a return to fitness.

Viktor Gyokeres’ £64million arrival from Sporting gives Arteta the out-and-out number nine he’s wanted for years, and Football Insider sources have said that this could leave the writing on the wall for Jesus.

The 28-year-old had been linked with a surprise move to Tottenham, but ex-Spurs keeper Paul Robinson quickly shut down the prospect of Arsenal letting Jesus cross the North London divide given their rivalry.

Instead, sources have told Football Insider that a return to Brazil could be on the cards for the striker, with Jesus’ former club Palmeiras one of several Brasileiro Serie A sides who have money to spend.

Palmeiras have already been linked with a move for a Premier League striker in the form of Richarlison, with prize money from the Club World Cup making big-money transfers “realistic” for Brazilian clubs.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke argued that a return to his homeland could be the best possible move for Jesus this summer, with his Arsenal future under a cloud after that long-term injury.

“We could see Jesus maybe return to Brazil”, he told Football Insider.

“I think that’ll be the more likely option for him, going back to his homeland.

“Obviously, the Brazilian clubs have got a bit more wealth and finance to work with these days as well, so I think that could be a good solution for all the parties.”

Alongside Palmeiras; Botafogo, Flamengo and Fluminense have all been financially emboldened by their involvement in the Club World Cup, and all four clubs could shape as potential destinations for Jesus.

Arsenal will be happy to accept any appropriate offers for their number nine this summer, with Gyokeres’ signing finally answering the calls for a ‘proper’ striker which existed even when Jesus was at full fitness.

Gyokeres will be an automatic starter for the Gunners with Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino as a supporting cast, and with a move for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze also on the cards, Jesus could be the player moved on as a result.
