Manchester United will rush through Alejandro Garnacho’s sale to Chelsea after reneging on his asking price, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Garnacho’s imminent switch to Stamford Bridge.

Football Insider revealed on 26 August that Man United had slashed the price tags of their ‘bomb squad’ in an effort to accelerate their departures before the end of the transfer window, including Garnacho‘s.

Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony have all been marked for the exit door since before the start of pre-season, and the Argentina international looks set to be the next player on his way out.

Chelsea are now on the brink of signing Garnacho after finally agreeing a fee with United, and sources have told Football Insider that the Red Devils have bitten the bullet when it comes to his asking price.

Man United had hoped to bring in £50million from Garnacho’s sale this summer, but Football Insider sources have stated that Chelsea will pay a lower fee than this with a figure of £40m now agreed.

Football Insider revealed on 8 August that Man United would hold firm on Garnacho’s £50m price tag and had told Chelsea to pay that exact amount, but playing the waiting game has paid off for the Blues.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that while Man United did want to stick to their £50m valuation, their desparate situation has forced them to rush through several late deals.

“It’s an ongoing situation, [Manchester United] are trying to get these deals done”, he told Football Insider.

“The Garnacho one is closer than most, they’re agreeing a fee with Chelsea – or, Chelsea are agreeing the fee with Man United.

“It’s not at what Man United were initially looking for – around the £50million mark – it’ll be a bit lower than that.”

Garnacho was the only member of United’s ‘bomb squad’ to feature regularly under Ruben Amorim, with Marcus Rashford, Antony and Malacia all loaned out in January just weeks after the Portuguese’s arrival.

Amorim’s public fall-out with Garnacho certainly hasn’t helped Man United’s cause when looking to sell the Argentina international, particularly given that the 21-year-old only wanted to move to Chelsea.

The perenially-injured Lisandro Martinez has been pictured with Jadon Sancho and the rest of Amorim’s outcasts, but it remains to be seen if the under-fire Man United manager can move them on in the final days of the window.
