Rasmus Hojlund may only leave Manchester United on loan this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Last week (9 August), Man United confirmed the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, for a fee of around £74million.
After the addition of Sesko, Hojlund is expected to depart Old Trafford before the end of the window, with AC Milan leading the race for his signature.
United want to offload the 22-year-old permanently, but sources say that the Italian giants would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy.

Along with AC Milan, there are a number of other Italian teams in the race for Hojlund, who has fallen down the pecking order at Man United after the recent Sesko signing.
The Denmark international had an impressive season in the Serie A for Atalanta in 2022/23, before making the move to Manchester, scoring nine league goals despite only starting 20 games.
However like Milan, many of the interested clubs would prefer a loan deal for Hojlund, rather than meeting United’s valuation of the player.

Meanwhile, Man United are keeping a close eye on Harry Kane’s situation at Bayern Munich as they plan to act on their long-term interest in the striker, sources have told Football Insider.
Kane has a release clause in his contract which will become active in January 2026, with an initial value of £56m, and United are aiming to take advantage.
Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United remain interested in Kane, and that INEOS see him as a major target.
While any possibility of a move during this summer’s transfer window has been ruled out, his potential availability next year has resulted in a heightened interest.
