Tottenham are pushing forward in their efforts to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze but could face late competition from Arsenal.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 27-year-old’s future at Selhurst Park in the transfer window’s closing stages.
Following James Maddison’s cruciate ligament injury, Thomas Frank’s side are set to step up their efforts to land his replacement, with Eze top of their list.
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in May that Tottenham have held talks with Eze’s agent as he remains among their top targets.

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the England star, having been linked with moves for his signature over the last couple of years, and could finally make a move.
However, Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Crystal Palace are reluctant to lose Eze and will stand firm on their demand that clubs pay his £68million release clause.
Football Insider revealed on 22 July that Arsenal are accelerating plans to sign Eze as Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen alongside the addition of Noni Madueke.

However, the Gunners will have to sell at least one of Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson before moving for Eze, making the deal unlikely as things stand.
O’Rourke explained that Tottenham are currently in the box seat to sign the England international, but any deal will largely be down to Crystal Palace’s stance.
“Tottenham have rekindled their interest in Eze,” he told Football Insider.
“They were the ones who have always been the front-runners over the last couple of transfer windows.
“It seems Spurs have been pushing to bring the player to the club.
“Arsenal have showed interest this summer, but it’s a case for them of offloading a few players from the squad before they can move forward with a deal for Eze.
“There has been talk that they want to offload the likes of Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard.

“That gives Spurs the advantage right now, they’re looking to steal a march on Arsenal and get a deal done for Eze, but it won’t be easy to do.
“His release clause is soon to expire and it’s still expensive at £68million.
“With James Maddison picking up that potentially season-ending injury, Tottenham do need a new number ten.
“Palace don’t want to lose Eze, Oliver Glasner wants to keep hold of his best players.
“If Tottenham come up with an offer, it will be up to Palace what they want to do with it.
“Eze does have options, but it seems Tottenham are ahead of Arsenal right now.”
Alongside their ambitions of signing Eze, Tottenham are also pursuing a deal for Man City star Savinho in the closing stages of the transfer window.
Brown told Football Insider on 12 August that Savinho is keen to join Tottenham as he aims to play more regular minutes than he has been afforded at City.

The Brazil international is believed to have grown frustrated by his inconsistent role in Pep Guardiola’s team and has invited the opportunity to discuss a move.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Tottenham’s talks to sign Savinho are advancing with optimism that an agreement will soon be reached.
