Liverpool have agreed a £79 million deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for striker Hugo Ekitike, marking a decisive move to secure a new No. 9 forward for the club.
The transfer fee includes a guaranteed £69 million upfront with an additional £10 million in performance-related add-ons, pushing Liverpool's summer spend close to £250 million following their signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.
Ekitike, 23, has reportedly signed a six-year contract extending to 2031. The French striker scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists across all competitions in the 2024/25 season, playing a significant role in Frankfurt's qualification for the Champions League.
Born in Reims, France, Ekitike began his career at Reims and had spells with PSG and Eintracht Frankfurt, initially joining Frankfurt on loan before making the move permanent. Standing 6’3” tall and right-footed, he has been highly valued, with Frankfurt reportedly placing a valuation around €100 million (£86.5 million).
The deal emerged partly because Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak was deemed unavailable after Liverpool’s interest, with Ekitike favoring Liverpool to join the reigning Premier League champions. Frankfurt’s coach expressed that Ekitike’s impending departure constitutes a “bitter loss” for the club.
This signing fits into manager Arne Slot's vision for the team and is expected to coincide with Darwin Nunez’s exit, signifying a clear reshaping of Liverpool's attacking lineup ahead of the new season.
Ekitike is expected to travel to Liverpool for a medical and formalities to complete the transfer imminently.
