Liverpool are not concerned about Ibrahima Konate despite his wretched start to the season and doubts about his contract situation.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 26-year-old’s future as Real Madrid continue to keep tabs on his position.

Arne Slot remains a strong admirer of the France international, but there is a growing feeling his place in the starting XI could be at risk if Marc Guehi is signed.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 August that Liverpool have made a new offer for Guehi and are growing more confident a deal can be agreed with Crystal Palace following talks in the last hours.

As a result, questions are being asked about Konate’s future, although his contract situation remains a key talking points behind the scenes at Anfield.

This comes as Football Insider revealed in June that talks over Konate’s contract at Liverpool face collapse as they have been unable to reach an agreement so far.

Football Insider revealed on 17 August that Konate could leave Liverpool as soon as January if Guehi is signed as the Reds have no plans to lose him for free.

Real Madrid remain strongly interested in the defender and are plotting a move to sign him on a free transfer, similar to their deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, O’Rourke explained that there are no immediate concerns about the defender’s future despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract situation.

“I don’t think it’ll affect his future at Liverpool,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously, a lot of people will put two and two together with these constant links to Real Madrid, uncertainty over his future at Anfield and obviously going into the end of the final year of his contract, say, oh, maybe it’s affecting his performances.

“I don’t think it’s probably as clear and simple as that.

“He’s had a tough time so far this season, there’s no getting away from that, but he’s still highly thought-of by Arne Slot.

“If Liverpool bring in Marc Guehi, Konate may find his place in the starting XI in jeopardy.

“But right now, they’re not concerned about his future at the club.

“Obviously his contract situation is the main talking point on Anfield right now with Real Madrid still showing a lot of interest in him.”

Guehi is not the only high-profile target on Liverpool’s radar in the closing stages of the window, as they are also keen to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Liverpool are planning to approach Villa for Rogers should the dominoes fall into place with Harvey Elliott’s departure.

Rogers has emerged as a potential target for the Reds ahead of the 1 September deadline, with those at Anfield being huge admirers of the 23-year-old former Man City gem.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Leipzig remain in talks with Elliott and are hopeful of finalising an agreement before the deadline.
