Liverpool are planning to approach Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers’ signature should the dominoes fall into place with Harvey Elliott’s departure.

Arne Slot has not been shy of splashing the cash this summer, with Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike all arriving at Liverpool over the last couple of months.

The Premier League champions do not yet appear to be finished in the transfer market, with Liverpool preparing a second bid for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

It isn’t just another striker Arne Slot wants, though.

A different kind of attacking option could also be on the cards.

Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Ekitike are likely to be the chosen front three for much of the campaign ahead, but Slot would not turn down the chance for further reinforcements.

Rogers has emerged as a potential target for the Reds ahead of the 1 September deadline, with those at Anfield being huge admirers of the 23-year-old former Man City academy gem.

Kept tabs on by many Premier League clubs, Tottenham are also interested in Rogers’ signature.

According to my sources, however, Liverpool have already discussed internally the potential of signing the six-time England international as a replacement for Elliott.

RB Leipzig are pushing to sign Elliott before the window closes, with Slot making it clear that the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

It is my understanding that while Liverpool want £50million for the attacking midfielder, £45million would not be turned down.

Although Rogers is clearly a big target for Slot, it is unlikely to change Liverpool’s stance on signing Isak, who continues to train away from Eddie Howe’s squad this season.

Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Nick Woltemade, and with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa still on the radar at St James’ Park, this could allow for the Reds to finally seal a deal for the centre-forward.

Following the exits of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, Liverpool’s attack currently chooses itself, with Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha starring off the bench.

If Isak were to also join the squad, it could mean that Ekitike finds an entirely different role after impressing with three goals and an assist in his opening three games for the club.
