Luis Diaz Wants to Leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich
Luis Diaz has officially conveyed to Liverpool his intention to leave Anfield this summer, making it clear that he wants to join Bayern Munich if a transfer deal can be reached. The Colombian winger, 28, is currently one of the lowest-paid first-team players at Liverpool despite his importance to the squad.
Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto for an initial fee of €45 million (£37.5 million), signing a contract that runs for two more years. However, his wages of around £55,000 a week place him far below the club's top earners, prompting him to seek better terms elsewhere.
Bayern Munich have already submitted a bid worth €67 million (£58 million, $78 million), which Liverpool rejected, but they are now preparing an improved offer with a "monster" salary package for Diaz that significantly surpasses his current earnings at Liverpool. This effort reflects Bayern's determination to secure the player’s signature for the upcoming season.
While Liverpool appear resistant to selling Diaz, the player’s desire to move has complicated matters. Despite this, Liverpool are focused on acquiring striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, with negotiations progressing and the club prioritizing this deal. Meanwhile, West Ham is also reportedly targeting two Liverpool midfielders, indicating a busy transfer window for the Premier League champions.
Some pundits have expressed reservations about Bayern’s pursuit of Diaz, warning that the transfer might be a mistake. Nevertheless, Bayern remain optimistic they can finalize the deal, especially if Liverpool proceed with signing Ekitike, which could balance squad changes.
