Sources: Liverpool reach new Mohamed Salah agreement, latest round of talks scheduled

Thu 28 August 2025 12:23, UK

Liverpool have reached a mutual agreement with Mohamed Salah over when they plan to review his future at the club.

The Egyptian King has been an incredibly influential figure for the Reds ever since he joined from Roma in 2017.

Although Salah recently signed a new Liverpool contract, keeping him at Anfield until 2027, his long-term future remains uncertain.

Despite being regarded as key to Liverpool‘s success, owners FSG are now planning for life without the 33-year-old forward.

Liverpool are keen to decide Salah‘s future before his contract expires in two years to avoid losing another star on a free transfer, which is what happened when Trent Alexander-Arnold agreed to join Real Madrid this season back in January.

As a result, according to my sources, FSG have reached an agreement with Salah to review his availability at the end of the season.

While the Premier League champions do not want to force the African out, they will not stand in his way if a suitable bid comes in from Saudi Arabia, Europe or the MLS between now and the start of next season.

Should a club match Liverpool’s value in the next three windows, FSG plans to reinvest the funds in an elite-level replacement.

There are still a lot of moving parts when it comes to Salah’s future.

The forward leaving the Reds on a free in two years is not completely out of the question — that outcome would certainly not be Liverpool’s preference, though.

Given the Reds’ openness to discuss a transfer with almost any top club, where Salah could end up, should he leave Merseyside next summer, remains open for debate.

Salah’s links to the Saudi Pro League are not surprising.

The big question will be whether or not Salah feels he is ready to leave top-level European football.

While Salah has been linked with PSG before, the Parisians are a less likely destination than in windows gone by.

Luis Enrique is building a team for the future with their squad’s average age just 24.5 years last season.

Although incredibly wealthy and able to offer elite-level competition, the French giants have experience when it comes to shoehorning marquee signings into the same team, and are unlikely to take the same approach again.

A future move to the French capital is not out of the realms of possibility but definitely less likely now than before.

Although Salah has reached heights seldom seen in the Premier League, his loyalty very much lies with Liverpool.

While many clubs would certainly fancy the chance of offering the winger the chance to stay in the Premier League, the player would never agree.
