Harvey Elliott could leave Liverpool for as little as £40million this summer amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Spurs’ attempts to sign the Liverpool playmaker.

Tottenham have a playmaking void to fill this summer after James Maddison’s ACL injury, and Elliott has emerged as one of several candidates to plug that gap as Liverpool prepare to let him leave this summer.

Elliott is highly likely to leave Anfield this summer after his lack of game-time last season and Liverpool’s club-record signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, with RB Leipzig currently leading the chase.

However, sources have told Football Insider that Tottenham could succeed with a £40million bid for Elliott, as Liverpool are willing to sell the 22-year-old for this amount if a buy-back clause is included.

Football Insider sources have said that this valuation jumps to £50m without a buy-back clause, but Tottenham still face a race against time to overtake the likes of RB Leipzig in the running to sign Elliott.

Football Insider revealed on 8 August that Tottenham see Elliott as an ideal replacement for Maddison and a realistic transfer target, particularly when compared to Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke stated that although Spurs are firmly behind Leipzig in the race to sign Elliott, Liverpool’s reasonable valuation of the midfielder still gives them a good chance.

“Reluctantly, Liverpool would consider letting Elliott go for the right fee”, he told Football Insider.

“There’s been talk of £40million plus a buy-back clause, or a £50million fee without a buy-back clause.

“RB Leipzig seem to be the ones leading the chase for Elliott right now, and they’ve opened talks with Liverpool to discuss a potential deal for the 22-year-old.

“If Tottenham are in the market for attacking midfielders, Harvey Elliott would be somebody who would figure high up their list.

“It could be an astute signing if they were to get him, but it does seem that other clubs are further advanced in the pursuit of Elliott, rather than Spurs.”

Maddison’s absence until next February at the earliest leaves a signifiant hole in Thomas Frank‘s side, despite the 28-year-old being reduced to a pit-part role under Ange Postecoglou at times last season.

Tottenham have identified Real Madrid’s Nico Paz as a potential alternative to Eze as Maddison’s replacement, but the Argentine doesn’t have the advantage of Premier League experience as Elliott does.

Elliott’s move to RB Leipzig is yet to be completed, and if Tottenham offer the highly-rated youngster with regular Premier League football and a return to London, don’t count them out of the race just yet.
