Liverpool are hopeful they will be able to land a cut-price deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace closer to the transfer deadline as their updated plan is outlined.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 24-year-old’s future at Selhurst Park amid ongoing negotiations.

Palace’s asking price, originally believed to be around £40million, has now dropped by £5million, but Liverpool still see the price tag as higher than they’re willing to pay.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Liverpool have re-opened talks with Palace, but his valuation has left talks at a deadlock.

Instead, the Reds are prepared to wait until later in the window as Palace chairman Steve Parish confessed they cannot afford to let him leave on a free.

However, Football Insider revealed that Liverpool could wait 12 months to sign Guehi on a free transfer if they are unable to reach an agreement this summer.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 18 August that Palace could give Liverpool an ultimatum as they look set to lose Eberechi Eze.

The Eagles are understood to be reluctant to lose both of their key players within a matter of weeks, but talks with Liverpool over Guehi have not yet been dropped.

O’Rourke explained that the two clubs remain in negotiations, with the Reds hopeful of reaching an agreement for a smaller transfer fee.

“Liverpool remain in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi,” he told Football Insider.

“Steve Parish came out and suggested after the Community Shield win against Liverpool that Palace couldn’t really afford to let him run down his contract.

“Obviously the two clubs are apart in valuations right now for Marc Guehi with Palace holding out for around £35million plus.

“Liverpool are hoping they can land the England international on a smaller fee because of his contract situation, with just 12 months to go.

“Liverpool are hopeful that the closer it gets to the end of the window, Palace might drop that price tag.

“It’s also ongoing between the two clubs and it remains to be seen if Palace will drop that price tag because there is definitely a gap in the valuations between the two clubs right now.”

Alongside the addition of a new centre-back, Arne Slot’s side are continuing to eye attacking reinforcements and alternatives to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Football Insider’s Indy Kaila revealed on 21 August that Liverpool have met with Rodrygo’s agent to find out what the Brazil international’s demands are.

Isak remains the first-choice signing at Anfield, but work has now begun behind the scenes to establish potential alternatives should they struggle to agree terms.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Liverpool will look to sign a winger if their pursuit of the Sweden international falls through before the deadline.
