Liverpool are exploring a new contract for left-back Andy Robertson to avoid him quitting on a free transfer.
The Reds are undefeated after five games in all competitions which saw Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on 17 September.
The European clash also saw a first start of the season for the Scottish left-back after sources told Football Insider on 16 September that Robertson and Milos Kerkez will be rotated for Liverpool across the season.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the former Hull City defender still has “a role to play” with the Premier League champions despite the arrival of the young Hungarian.
The 31-year-old’s contract expires next June, which has left his future at Anfield uncertain moving forward.

Football Insider exclusively revealed back in June that Robertson was considering a move to Atletico Madrid following the signing of the ex-Bournemouth starlet, according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown.
The Scotland international had been the main left-back at Anfield for eight seasons but the arrival of Kerkez has put his long-term spot in jeopardy.

Yet, the Hungarian has had a mixed start to life on Merseyside, and that is leading Arne Slot and the Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes to reconsider the club’s stance on the number 26 and his contract situation.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Andy Robertson over the next few months.

“He is into the final year of his contract at Anfield right now, he turns 32 as well.
Kerkez has been brought in as a long-term replacement for Robertson in that left-back role.
“I still think Robertson’s got a role to play at Liverpool right now, he is the vice-captain right now behind Virgil van Dijk so that shows how important he is in the dressing room and around the club as well.
“I think Liverpool will be hoping to keep hold of Andy Robertson with a new deal being explored and, look, he’s back in the team right now…so let’s see if Robertson gets a run in the team now with Kerkez taken out of the firing line after a difficult start to his life at Anfield.”
Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett exclusively told Football Insider on 15 September that Kerkez would have been sent off for Liverpool against Burnley if he hadn’t been taken off by Slot on 14 September.
The Hungary international had been booked for simulation before dodging a second bookable offence late into the first half.
This prompted the Dutch manager to not take any chances by hauling the 21-year-old off and replacing him with the trusty Scotsman.
Liverpool fans agreed with Slot’s “ruthless” Kerkez substitution in the match as supporters backed the Reds veteran Robertson to reclaim his starting spot.
The former Cherries defender’s inexperience has shown how important the number 26 is for the Premier League champions which could lead to the 31-year-old earning a lucrative contract extension.
