Manchester United are in a race against time to complete Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Tyrell Malacia’s departures before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about the impending fates of Man United’s ‘bomb squad’.
Alejandro Garnacho completed his move to Chelsea on 30 August after a public falling-out with Ruben Amorim which left him ostracised from the first-team picture alongside four more out-of-favour players.
Marcus Rashford previously completed a loan move to Barcelona and Antony is set for a return to Real Betis, leaving Sancho and Malacia as the last two members of Man United‘s ‘bomb squad’ still present.
Amorim also wants to move Hojlund on before the transfer deadline, and Football Insider sources have stated that the Red Devils’ recruitment team are “working overtime” to seal exits for the unwanted trio.
Sources have told Football Insider that Man United are in a weak position with barely 24 hours to move Sancho, Hojlund and Malacia off the books, with interested clubs aware of their “desperate” position.

Former Red Devils scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Hojlund could have his pick of Serie A and Premier League clubs after being dropped by Amorim, but time is running out for a move to happen.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke stated that United are locked in “a game of cat and mouse” with the clubs vying for Hojlund, Malacia and Sancho, who know that they have all the bargaining power.
“The Man United recruitment team are working overtime to try and get these players out the door, because they don’t have long-term futures”, he told Football Insider.
“Clubs that might be interested [in the trio] know that they are desperate to offload, and know they might be able to get a cheaper fee or a better deal for them.
“It’s a game of cat and mouse at the minute, and the closer it gets the deadline, United will be in a weaker position over those players and letting them go.
They’re big deals because they’re big names.”

Football Insider revealed on 27 August that United could be given a reprieve to get Sancho off the books due to the Turkish SuperLig transfer window closing on 12 September, after his failed switch to Roma.
This may allow more time for Man United to ship Sancho, Hojlund or Malacia to Turkey if they fail to agree any deals before Monday’s 7pm UK deadline, but their desperate circumstances are still on full display.
Amorim’s public dismissal of so many high-earning players weakened Man United’s hand at the very start of pre-season, and the Red Devils can have few complaints that clubs are now actively trying to bring down their asking prices.
