Aston Villa will fight tooth and nail to retain Morgan Rogers as Tottenham Hotspur are told only a “huge” bid will get a deal over the line, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about Rogers’ prospects of leaving Villa Park by Monday night’s cut-off.
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Rogers has emerged as a “dream signing” for Tottenham as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his frontline, having sealed the signature of Xavi Simons on Friday.
Tottenham aren’t the only club keen on Rogers, and transfer expert Indy Kaila exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool are ready to launch a late approach for the playmaker before the window closes.
However, Football Insider sources have stated that Unai Emery is desperate to keep his “prize asset” in the fold at Villa Park this term, and will oppose any move for Rogers before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Sources have told Football Insider that Aston Villa will demand a “huge” price tag to even entertain the prospect of Rogers leaving at this late stage of the window, with a valuation of £80–£100millon mooted.

Ex-Villa CEO Keith Wyness has tipped his former club to accept bids in the region of £70m for Rogers, but Emery sees the situation very differently and will do his utmost to keep hold of the star 23-year-old.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that after Villa’s many PSR restrictions in the transfer market this summer, selling Rogers at this stage of the window is unthinkable for Emery.
“Aston Villa don’t really want to lose any of their best players right now”, he told Football Insider.
“Unai Emery’s been restricted in the transfer market bringing signings in, so he won’t really want to lose one of his star players – and there’s no doubt Morgan Rogers is that prize asset.
“Villa will do everything they can to keep hold of him – with such a huge price tag involved, it makes any deal so late in the window even more difficult to do.”

Although a transfer fee in the region of £100million would immediately quash Villa’s PSR worries if Spurs or any interested club were willing to pay it, Emery would much rather keep hold of his number 27.
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Aston Villa are happy to sanction Emi Buendia’s exit on a permanent deal to Leeds United if it helps them to balance the books, and helps them to retain Rogers.
Jacob Ramsey‘s £40m move to Newcastle was a painful one for his Aston Villa team-mates, but that sale and a few more late-window deals could prove key to ensuring that Rogers stays put at Villa Park.
