Yoane Wissa is increasingly unlikely to complete his move to Newcastle United before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about Newcastle’s prolonged search for a new striker.

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Wissa won’t feature for Brentford in their next Premier League match against Sunderland, as he continues to try and force a move to St.

James’ Park this summer.

Brentford value Wissa at £50million and above and have rejected two bids of £25m and £35m from Newcastle this summer, and Football Insider sources have said the Magpies are running out of time.

Newcastle have agreed a £64m deal for Stuttgart frontman Nick Woltemade in the latest twist to their transfer saga, but it’s unclear if this will set the wheels in motion for Wissa to join him at St.

James’ Park.

Sources have told Football Insider that while Howe would still “love” to sign Wissa before the transfer deadline, Brentford are also in a race to find the replacement which would allow them to sanction his exit.

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Aston Villa could hijack Brentford’s move for Maximilian Beier after making contact for the Borussia Dortmund striker, hitting the Bees and Wissa with another setback.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke was asked if Wissa could still end up at Newcastle before the window closes on 1 September, but stated that there is still a long way to go in this deal.

“Who knows what’s going to happen with this one – Newcastle are scrambling around for strikers”, he told Football Insider.

“Eddie Howe would love to bring in a new striker, but the closer we get to the deadline, it’s a harder and harder deal to do, because Brentford need time to bring in a replacement as well.”

The Magpies’ successful bid for Woltemade could finally answer the question of who replaced Alexander Isak at the front of Howe’s attack this season, with the Swede still attempting to force his own way out.

Isak and Wissa are both yet to succeed in their bids to push through respective moves to Liverpool and Newcastle this summer, and it’s unclear if either will be brought back into the fold if they do stay put.

Wolves’ stance on Jorgen Strand Larsen’s future could re-open the door for Wissa to finally complete his switch to St.

James’ in the final days of the window, but it remains to be seen if Newcastle, Brentford or Liverpool blink first.
