Brentford are unlikely to renege on Yoane Wissa’s price tag after Newcastle United’s latest bid for the striker was rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about the Magpies’ continued pursuit of Wissa.

Newcastle’s third bid of £35million and £5m in add-ons for the striker was rejected by Brentford on 20 August, despite Wissa’s attempts to force the transfer through and refusing to train for Keith Andrews.

Football Insider had reported that Wissa would be allowed to leave Brentford after they signed Dango Ouattara, but the former Bournemouth winger is instead seen as a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo.

Now, sources have told Football Insider that regardless of incomings at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford will continue to hold out for at least £50m from Newcastle should they bid again for Wissa.

Wissa has made his intent to leave Brentford clear this summer and sees St.

James’ Park as his preferred destination, and Football Insider sources have said that Newcastle are likely to return with a fourth bid.

Football Insider revealed on 16 August that Liverpool had emerged as surprise contenders to sign Wissa this summer, but Newcastle remain well clear in the race despite Brentford’s reluctance to sell him.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke was asked if Newcastle will return with yet another offer for Wissa before the end of the transfer window, with themselves and Brentford at loggerheads.

“You’d think so, but now the third offer, which was around £35million with £5million in add-ons – taking it up to £40million – has been rejected by Brentford”, he told Football Insider.

“Brentford are holding out for £50million–plus for Wissa, they don’t want to let him go without bringing in our replacement of their own.

“Wissa’s made it pretty clear that he wants to make the move away from Brentford.

“He seemingly has his heart set on a move to Newcastle – there’s been no counter-offer as yet, but Newcastle will come back in for him.”

Wissa’s current standoff with Brentford is being taken to even greater heights at the club he’s looking to join, with Alexander Isak adopting a similar stance to try and force a move from Newcastle to Liverpool.

Isak and Newcastle have exchanged public statements in recent days and the current impasse threatens to cause a rift in Eddie Howe’s squad, with the Magpies determined to bring in replacements beforehand.

Brentford find themselves in a similar situation regarding Wissa’s future, and as the DR Congo frontman and Isak attempt to push through big-money exits, it’s unclear what will cause the first domino to fall.
