Brentford agreeing a deal to sign Dango Ouattara will open the door for Yoane Wissa to complete his move to Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about Wissa’s continued stand-off with Keith Andrews.
Brentford have “dug their heels in” over Wissa’s future at the Gtech Community Stadium this summer, with a £25million bid from Newcastle rejected and the Congolese forward going on strike as a result.
Football Insider sources have said Brentford won’t sanction any moves for Wissa until a replacement is found, and the Bees are closing in on exactly that with a £37m deal agreed for Bournemouth’s Ouattara.
Football Insider revealed on 12 August that Brentford were stepping up their efforts to sign Ouattara and this move being completed will open the door for Newcastle, who are still “favourites” to bring in Wissa.
Brentford were in talks to sign Arnaud Kalimuendo as a potential replacement for Wissa, but Nottingham Forest agreeing a deal for the Rennes striker could have left the Bees back at square one in the market.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke said that Ouattara’s potential signing could set the ball rolling for Wissa to complete his transfer to Newcastle, as Brentford finally close in on a replacement.
“I would fully expect Wissa to make that move to St James’ Park before the end of the window, as long as Brentford bring in a replacement”, he told Football Insider.
“They are close to a signing – Ouattara at Bournemouth is the player they’re trying to get.
“Once Brentford get some replacements in, I expect Wissa to move on and, would still regard Newcastle as favourites.”

Wissa’s anticipated move to St.
James’ Park will not only lead to significant developments at Brentford, but could also be the key transfer which re-ignites Liverpool‘s record-breaking move for Alexander Isak.
Ouattara’s natural position as a hard-working, versatile winger may not shape as the ideal replacement for Wissa in West London, but the Burkinabe did excel in a makeshift centre-forward role last season.
Brentford losing both Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo this summer still provides Andrews with a massive task to overcome in his debut Premier League campaign as a manager, but signing Ouattara is a step in the right direction.
