Nicolas Jackson could push for a move to Newcastle United if it becomes clear he has no future in Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 24-year-old’s position at Stamford Bridge amid increased transfer speculation.

Newcastle are among a number of clubs, alongside the likes of Bayern Munich, closely monitoring the forward’s situation with a potential summer move in mind.

Football Insider revealed last month that Jackson is unhappy at Chelsea following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap and could look for a way out.

The Senegal international is keen to play regular first-team football next season, but the asking price could be a concern if it does not drop later in the window.

This comes as former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 28 July that Man United walked away from signing Jackson due to his price tag.

Football Insider revealed that Chelsea will accept a big offer from Newcastle for Jackson as the Magpies view him as a key target.

Jackson’s potential decision to push for the move would make a positive change for Eddie Howe’s side, who have missed out on a number of key targets this summer.

O’Rourke explained that there is a growing feeling that his price tag could become more reasonable towards the end of the window with all parties keen on the move.

“Jackson has been linked with a move to Newcastle,” he told Football Insider.

“I think the closer we get to the end of the window, maybe that price tag might drop with the player keen on a move away.

“If he’s not going to be playing in the Chelsea team once the Premier League season starts and he finds himself out of contention, then he might push for the move.

“I think for Newcastle, he probably wasn’t at the top of their list at the start of the window.

“But now, with the way things are going, he is somebody who will be high on their list.

“Chelsea are prepared to let Jackson go, and although they’re asking for big money, I think that price tag could drop between now and the end of the window.”

Newcastle’s interest in a new striker comes as Alexander Isak is being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool and has made clear his desire to leave.

However, Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Newcastle will not allow Isak to leave St James’ Park unless that can bring in his replacement first.

Having missed out on both Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko already, they have been forced to consider alternative options including Jackson.

Meanwhile, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak has been delayed after Newcastle failed to sign Sesko.
